January 21- Not our greatest day!
7:30- What an adventurous day leaving Yacht Haven
First, the day started off right. Steve and I both went and had a shower. Figure we would take advantage of the gorgeous hot showers here. Then I made him a couple of cheese and eggs on an English muffin.
Dr Jim was in no hurry to leave so we decided to clean inside the boat.
11:45pm- Everyone decided to leave. So Steve told me to take the helm in order for him and the doc master to guide us out. I was doing fine as I was backing out until I noticed Dr. Jim decided to leave the same time. Now I am screwed because by slowing down in order for us not to hit him, the wind and current took the bow of the boat into another boats anchor. What a mess! Thank God there was no damage to the other boat however their anchor ripped out the barbecue which was now hanging from the propane cord on the outside of the boat but worse it also ripped out our lifeline stantions on the port side. There was also a small rip in the side of the Bimini.
Time for repair.
Thank you Lord for making Steve so talented. He managed to fix the railing so that they were still useable. We will have to fix them further once we are at a marina. After about 1/2 hour of adjusting the railings back we left the port.
As if that wasn't enough excitement for one day, when we were coming out of the channel, a sailboat ran aground and another sailboat was helping him out. Little did we know he had a tow line in between them and almost hit us. They were blocking the channel. We managed to turn around to avoid collision. We waited until he cleared the channel to proceed out.
We finally met up with Dr Jim.
While we were motoring Steve took the barbecue apart and fixed it. We won't know whether it still works. He said the valve might be broken. Find out later when we anchor.
I proceeded to fix the small rip in the side of the Bimini. I wanted to do it before it rained. Good thing we had material to repair it. To make it look good, I made the patch into a G for GaYa so it didn't look so patchy.
After the incident happened, Steve and I reflected on the moment. He said he was proud that I did not panic and he told me there was nothing I could of done to avoid it. It all happened so fast. Of course I was upset. I noticed blood on the cushions and realize he banged up his toes again. I was nurse Lise and put peroxide and cleaned them up.
Dr. Jim followed us into a a narrow channel where the current was about 5 knots so we were only making 1 knot speed over the water. You actually have to call in a security on the radio to let other boats know you are crossing the channel.
Crappy day to cross the ocean since the wind was right on our nose and it was cloudy.
3:30pm- Steve figured he might as well fish but never caught anything and gave up after an hour.
5:30pm- Change of plans. Because we weren't moving too fast and the water was getting choppier, we decided to anchor at Hatchet Bay.
I went below in the boat to open the hatch so that Steve could use the anchor remote when I noticed the hatch was not closed the whole time we were pounding on the water. The bedding in the bow was soaked. Good thing I had a mattress protector and extra bedding. After anchoring, we changed the bedding. Tomorrow if we go to a laundry mat, I will wash it all.
Great news.....Steve fixed the barbecue and we were able to barbecue chicken for dinner.
Sat out for a while and had a couple of drinks. It was sure a hard day.
7:30pm- We watched a movie and the made it an early evening.
