February 7 & 8, 2018 Staniel Cay

February 7, 2018- Staniel Cay
It rained on and off all night with small gust of winds.
Beautiful morning

Steve and I slept in today and didn't raise our anchor until 8:30am.  We are heading to Staniel Cay..
As we were motoring along the beaches, we noticed  other sailboats anchored 1/2 mile apart from each along the coast. Everyone seeks shelter and privacy wherever you can find it.

What a great sail.  We have both sails up and we are going 7 knots.  More straight long sailing in two days than what we used to sail in a month at home.  We did 70 miles with no motor and we have a following  seas which makes It a much more comfortable  ride.
10:00am-  We have hit over 9 knots.  In a sailor's world, we are flying. Blowing 20 knots apparent wind  on the starboard quarter.  New speed record for GaYa.

11:00am-  Arrived at Staniel Cay and anchored off of Big Major spot where the pig beach is.
We covered 16.41 nautical miles.

Anchored by the pig beach

Some boats have incredible fishing chairs

We will probably stay here for a couple of days.  Steve is hoping to snorkel in the cave if the wind dies down.

The dock which Dr. Jim hit
After lunch, we took the dinghy to the Marina to bring our garbage and to get ice.  We walked on the dock to see if they repaired the board which Dr. Jim ran into about a week ago.  There was a new board
on the dock but they still have not repaired it.

After we got back to the boat, we realized we forgot to top up our phone data plan with BTC.  After resting an hour, we headed back but first we went snorkeling in the Thunder ball Grotto where the James Bond movie was filmed.  It was so cool.  First Steve went in to check it out and came out and said it was great.  I then decided to try it. You snorkel thru a tunnel cave which brings you inside a cave.  There are all kinds of fish. Inside when you look up, you can see light shining thru the cave.
Tomorrow, I hope to bring my camera to take photos.

Snorkeling inside the cave

After we went snorkeling, we dove in the Marina unsalted pool to remove the salt from swimming. We then went to BTC office to top up our phone data plan so I can continue to update my blog and read our emails.

5:30pm-  Enjoyed dinner while watching the sunset.  It was such a beautiful night.  We sipped on wine while listening to music.

Unique sunset

Watched a movie before going to bed.

January 8, 2018
7:30am- As I was making coffee and doing my exercise, Steve called me up the boat to look at a beautiful rainbow.

10:00am-  Steve and I were determined to get video of going in the Thunderball grotto while the water was calm.  Actually, it turned out better since it was lower tides than yesterday and easier to enter and exit. What a great experience.

When we got back, we did a little cleaning around the boat.

1:30pm- Went for a dinghy ride to explore more areas.  There are a lot of small caves all along the banks.  First, we couldn't go without seeing our friendly pigs.

Lot of different caves along the edges

4:30pm-  A huge cloud came and Steve noticed a huge rainbow on the Big Major island
