February 2-5, 2018- Georgetown

February 2, 2018 - Made it to Georgetown

6:30am- We got up in preparation to leave Little Farmers Cay. Thank you Little Farmers for the treasures you given me.
6:45am-  As we were having our coffee, we overheard on the radio the air strip manager stating for all the anchored sailboats at the end of the runway to move otherwise they might get buzzed.

7:15am- Looks like it is a go with Ariel. Off to Georgetown we go.

Going thru the cut

Lot of current thru the cut

9:28am- Steve caught a baby barracuda.  Of course we didn't keep it.  Going for the Mahi Mahi.
9:30pm- Steve has tried every lure in his kit so far and no luck on catching dinner tonight.  At least the lures all got a good wash.
There are a lot of boats travelling today. We overheard on the radio that the boat named Elvis which went by us earlier was dropping someone off at the Great Exuma airport. Looks like a more developed area.
Going by the Great Exuma airport

2:45pm- Finally saw two dolphins jumping right beside our boat playing as we were entering the Georgetown Cut.  It was almost as if they were greeting us to Georgetown.
You have to really be careful coming in Georgetown due to rocks and shallow sand shoals.

We made sure to follow the line on the chart
3:10pm-  Anchored in Georgetown. Covered 34 miles today.
4:00pm- Went to Chat and Chill bar to have a drink with John, Susan and Nancy.
There was a lot of interesting people at the bar.
Steve and John didn't mind waiting in line

We decided to stay on the hook along with another hundred boats.  Tomorrow we will help Dr. Jim to how dock.

6:30pm- Steve and I had a wonderful taco dinner accompanied by a red melbac wine to celebrate our most southern destination for this year.
What a beautiful evening.  At night looking across the speaker, the number of anchor lights look like  stars.  So peaceful.

February 3, 2018- Moving Dr. Jim and exploring Georgetown

7:00am - Woke up to a rainy morning. Actually, it rained on and off all day.  Funny how it downpours and then clears up and is super hot.  Steve is collecting water from the rain. Actually, he washed his hair out in the rain.

Ariel needed to move this morning during high tide to Dr. Jim's friend's dock.  Croft, his friend, said he could stay there all winter. We couldn't go yesterday because there wasn't enough water to get thru the passage to the dock.

Raining hard this morning

Said goodbye to Nancy

Dr. Jim's boat docked for the winter at his friend, Croft's dock

Susan, John & Nancy getting Dr. Jim all set before going home
7:30am- Steve dropped Nancy and I at the dock in order to catch Ariel in case something goes wrong due to the fact they were having problems with their transmission.  She ran aground coming into the channel but once again maneuvered their way out.
Ariel is now safe and tied to the dock.  Nancy, John and Susan had a flight to go back home.  They booked a water taxi to the airport around 9am.  We all said our goodbyes.  Dr. Jim will be staying on the boat until a friend of his comes to stay with him in a couple of days. In the meantime, Croft is living in his house and will ensure he is fine.
Dr. Jim is happy to stay on his boat until his family come

10:30am- Steve and I took our dinghy across to downtown Georgetown to get diesel and gas in containers.
We also checked out the Laundromat location so we could do our wash on Monday.  They have a lot of provisions in their convenience store.  We walked around town.

We took our dinghy up to the gas station to get fuel

Gorgeous Catholic church

Different cemetery layout at the church

Government building

We found the laundromat

And the sign says.....

After lunch, we went on a secluded beach to look around and we noticed just as we were getting close to the beach, an Osprey was squawking  at us because she was protecting her young ones.  What a nice surprise.
Osprey in her nest at the beach

After exploring that beach, we went to see Dr. Jim.  He told us to go on the other side of Croft's house and to go explore that beach.  We went for a nice LONG walk.  It was so beautiful.

We could see star fish in the water

Always exploring

Later I did some painting while Steve read.  It is so relaxing when you are anchored out.  Had a wonderful dinner and just sat out and sipped on wine.

8:00pm- Watch a movie and then bed.

February 4, 2018

7:00am- Woke up this morning to a lovely partial rainbow looking out the beach.  We made it pancake Sunday.

9:00am- We took Croft's offer to get water from his cistern which has rain water.  We tested it and it was almost like distilled water.  We did a few trips back and forth.  Dr. Jim was just waking up when Steve called his name from outside the boat.
Croft lives at the top of the hill
Croft said we can take as much water from his well....

12:00pm- Steve decided to go swimming in back of the boat to check our bottom paint.  Everything looked good.  We then went to a place near Croft's house and found a place where people snorkel and there was even a cave.  There were tons on fish.  We didn't go in the cave since we weren't sure what to expect.

2:00pm-  Came back from snorkeling and took a nice shower on the boat.  As Steve was barbecuing hamburgers, he called me up for me to see the dolphins swimming around our boat. Figure we would have a little siesta before going to local bars to see the Super bowl.  It was funny to hear on the Cruiser's net this morning about boaters beware of going back to their boats tonight especially if there is drinking involved.  Guess one of the dinghy drivers last night ran into another boat since there were no lights on.  On the radio they told us to light up our boat because traffic will be heavy after the game.
As we were barbecuing hamburgers, we noticed dolphins swimming around our boat. So exciting!
4:00pm- Steve went to pick up Dr. Jim's laundry since we will be going into town to have our laundry done.  He also helped him with a few things around the boat.  His helper will be here tomorrow sometime.

6:30pm-  We went to a local bar to watch the Super bowl game. As I was getting into the dinghy, there was a gorgeous sunset.  Couldn't hear Justin Timberland sing and it was noisy in the bar.  We decided to come back to the boat to finish watching the game with U tube TV.  At least it was quieter and we could actually hear them talk.

Congratulations Philadelphia in winning Super bowl 2018.

February 5, 2018 _ Last Day in Georgetown

8:00am- Looks like a beautiful day.  After breakfast, Steve and I went to drop off  Dr. Jim and our laundry. It takes 10 minutes to dinghy across to town from where we are anchored.  We also bought provisions since we may not provision for a while.

Our dinghy was full with provisions

Steve made a separate trip to also get diesel for the boat with the dinghy.

When he got back, he wanted me to go up the mast once more to spray contact cleaner on the light socket because it still wasn't working.  So of course, up I went.

Gorgeous view from the top of the mast

We later went exploring.  I wanted to take photos of the Osprey family I discovered the other day.

Osprey mother upset we were on their beach

2:00pm-  By the time we drove around in our dinghy and ate a late lunch, it was time to pick up the laundry.  We think it is worth dropping it off for $10/load and have the Laundromat wash and fold the clothes for us.  It is a great service.  We would rather have fun than spend the day at the laundry mat.
Came back to the boat and  changed our bed.  It feels so good to have clean laundry.

When we dropped off  Dr. Jim's laundry, he said:" Meet my new best friend, Michael."  He is a young man who just flew in from the US and  will be staying with Dr. Jim for at least a couple of months.  He loves diving and when we told him about a cave near Dr. Jim's boat, he didn't waste anytime to get his snorkeling equipment on and went in the water.
Michael will be staying with Dr. Jim for 3 months
Steve and I went swimming and then went to the boat to wash up since Dr. Jim invited us out for dinner.  It is our last night here.
5:00pm-  Met Dr. Jim at his boat.  He managed to get on our dinghy along with Michael.  We scooted across the bay to a restaurant however it took a while since our dinghy engine was only 15 hp and there were 4 people on our 8ft boat.
We manage to slowly get across and realized it was very shallow.  Michael managed to pull us to chore as close as he could.  Dr. Jim got out with his socks and shoes and walked to the beach.  He didn't care if they got wet.
We walked into this really neat restaurant.  It has swings at the bar.  I just had to get photos of it.

Swings at a bar...how cool.
8:00pm- Dr. Jim met some friends from Oxford who volunteered to bring him back to his boat since they had a bigger motor boat.  Jim was happy to hear that knowing how long it took us to cross over.
We said our goodbyes since we are leaving Georgetown in the morning.
Until we meet again
{30pm-  Watched a movie and then bed.
